COVID Vaccine Update
On January 20th, 2021 WBR Parish Officials were a part of a zoom meeting with GOSHEP and LDH. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress of the COVID Vaccine and its distribution. Here is what we know:
Louisiana is in the 6th week of vaccine distribution.
Allocation amounts are based on population, per LDH.
Demand is still far greater than supply statewide.
o Last week alone, Louisiana Tier 1 Hospitals requested 110,000 vaccines and only 58,000 was allocated to the entire State of Louisiana.
o LDH stated there is no predictability from week to week on allocation amount for round 1 of the vaccines, but the second dose is automatic within the time frame of each vaccine.
Vaccine distributers will be notified each Monday on the expected quantities of vaccines they will receive.
o Walgreens and Walmart are distributing vaccines in West Baton Rouge Parish.
o The WBR Health Unit is still on the list of authorized distributers and has requested vaccines. Allocations of vaccines throughout the state has not reached the health units yet but are expected to shortly.
The WBR Health Unit procedures for distributing the vaccines are in place awaiting the vaccine allocation from LDH. We will publicly announce a dedicated phone line that will schedule an appointment when the vaccines are received by the WBR Health Unit.
We encourage anyone that is requesting vaccine locations throughout the parish to CALL 211 and they will notify you of locations where vaccines are being distributed.
Residents are also encouraged to contact their health care provider should they have any question in regards to the vaccine.
